Titanium medical implants used in bone-anchored hearing aids and dental prostheses, may not be as robust as is commonly believed, according to new evidence from scientists at the University of Birmingham. The General Dental Council (GDC) has worked with the police and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to successfully prosecute a man for the illegal practice of dentistry. Last month, Mr Primo Miguel Pena, of Pilton Place, London SE17, pleaded guilty at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court to unlawfully practising dentistry whilst not registered, contrary to Section 38 (1) of the Dentists’ Act 1984. He has been ordered to pay a total of £665 in fines, costs and victim surcharge fees.

People trust dentists more than doctors

There is a long held view of the traditional family GP widely trusted within the community, always on hand to dish out advice. Solo and Unsupported Expedition to the South Pole Part 2

Solo and Unsupported Expedition to the South Pole Part 2

Cat Burford
Antarctica is well known for its sastrugi, so none of this came as a surprise. I was aware of the importance of not losing my sense of humour, which would have been all too easy in the maze of ice. On the days where the sun shone, these obstacles were truly beautiful. Weaving my way through them was...

At the Start Line - Solo and Unsupported Expedition to the South Pole
