A report by campaign group Action on Sugar highlights higher sugar levels in expensive products when compared with cheaper versions. The report found ASDA's Smart Price Vanilla Flavour Ice Cream contains 7.9g of sugar per 100g, 46pc less than Waitrose's Duchy Organic Vanilla Ice Cream, which contains 14.5g per 100g for example.

The British Dental Association (BDA) has said the General Dental Council (GDC) must not be distracted from fixing its Fitness to Practise function, following the latest report from the Professional Standards Authority.

The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) [FGDP(UK)] has published a new edition of its Training Standards For Implant Dentistry, the first such new edition since 2012. The Standards are available to download at www.fgdp.org.uk as a part of the Open Standards Initiative.

A key trend which is boosting market growth is the collaboration with leading insurance providers. The dental services market is heading toward easing the expenses for individuals and reducing their out-of-pocket expenditures.
Baroness Benjamin asked the Government what plans they had ‘to promote oral health for children’. The minister, Lord Prior, replied that the childhood obesity plan had introduced two important measures for oral health: a soft drinks industry levy and a sugar reduction programme. Also Public Health England “continues to lead a wide-ranging programme to improve children’s oral health.”

The Royal College of Surgeons has published new guidance for surgeons to help them understand the shift in the law and its implications, after a landmark judgment given in a Supreme Court case in 2015, Montgomery vs Lanarkshire Health Board, clarified their understanding of patient consent. The extent that this warning may apply to dentists is uncertain.
