Mr Lansley is expected to participate in a question and answer session following his address, which replaces the previously-advertised appearance by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State Lord Howe. |

No comments| The Health Select Committee, chaired by former health secretary, Stephen Dorrell, has reported on commissioning in the light of the Health Bill, which has been put on hold by the Government. The committee recommends that the GP consortia should commission both primary and secondary care, including dentistry. They should however be enlarged to include other health professionals and be more accountable to the public. If this is accepted they will look very much like PCTs do now. |

The Government has now officially announced that the new contract pilots will start in ‘the summer’. 62 practices will trial new ideas based on registration, capitation and quality. “For the first time dentists will be paid for the quality of the treatment they give rather than the number of treatments providedâ€, Health Minister Lord Howe said.. |

Chief Dental Officer for England, Barry Cockcroft, has issued a letter on recall interval guidance. He says that since the publication of the NICE guidelines in 2004, a great deal of work has been done by the NHS on how to put the guidelines into practice effectively, and it is important that this is shared more widely with colleagues.

The full results of the Adult Dental Health Survey (2009) have been announced. Across almost all of the indicators of oral health and disease there has been a continued improvement in adults’ dental health.
