On May 17, 2017, at noon, GDPUK will publish its 10,000th digest email, since it moved to a new site in 2008. Readership of the digest email averages at 150,000 views a month, effectively 5,000 readers per day, every day, making it the most read email in UK dentistry. The GDPUK forum and website celebrates its' 20th year of operation during 2017.

Launching its manifesto for the forthcoming general election, the BDA has said political indifference is now jeopardising the sustainability of the dental service in England, as they called on all parties to set out their plans on prevention. BDA Chair Mick Armstrong said: “Political indifference to dentistry will guarantee a preventable disease remains the leading cause of hospital admissions among our children.”
The overwhelming majority of dentists and GPs are backing calls for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme to be expanded to school aged boys, according to a new survey. Parliamentarians from all parties have signed an open letter to the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt MP, urging him to ensure that the UK doesn’t miss this opportunity to eradicate some of the fastest-rising cancers in the developed world.

A new Chief Executive Officer and new Chairman have been announced by mydentist. Tom Riall will take up the position of CEO on 8 May, with Mark Robson, Chief Financial Officer, taking on the role on an interim basis. They have also announced that Alan Bowkett has been appointed Chairman of the IDH Board.
Thomas Wilson who worked at Wow Teeth Whitening in Sheffield and who is not a registered dentist, was fined £5,000 for tooth whitening. He was found guilty at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court of unlawfully using the title ‘dentist’ and illegal tooth whitening, and fined £2,500 for each offence. He was also ordered to pay a £250 victim surcharge and costs of £2,071.85.
