New research from the Oral Health Foundation shows millennials outstrip other generations when it comes to spending on their smiles. Data collected shows adults under-35 are spending a staggering £750 a year on dental treatment – more than three times the national average. |This is around four times more than their parents and nearly eight times that of their grandparents.

MDDUS has appointed Stephen Henderson to the post of Head of Dental Division. He has been with them as a Dento-Legal Adviser since February 2018, having worked in the professional indemnity industry for almost 20 years. In this position he will be integral to MDDUS’ efforts to support the existing body of dental members and expanding their dental membership base.

A Dental Protection survey of dentists in the UK has revealed the key issues affecting their mental wellbeing during the pandemic. Nearly 500 dental professionals, five in 10 (53%) said financial worries were having the most impact on their mental wellbeing. Lack of work and lack of adequate PPE were cited by nearly 4 in 10 (37% and 38% respectively).

Dental practices have started to re-open, although the BDA has warned that only just over a third will be ready to start from Day 1. Chair, Mick Armstrong said: I think we are all still recovering from the bombshell that was delivered to dentists on the 28 May via the BBC news ticker: that dentists could re-open their practices and return to work from Monday 8 June. This was nothing short of ‘disrespectful to the profession’.
