The Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) has received the backing of its members to move ahead with proposals to modernise the way the organisation is governed. At an Extraordinary General Meeting held on 20 September 2013, members voted unanimously in support of a series of changes which will strengthen the link between the Board and the essential work done at a local level across the UK through the Faculty’s divisions.
The British Dental Editors Forum (BDEF) has announced that the winner of this year's BDEF/British Dental Trade Association (BDTA) Young Dental Writer of the Year Award is James Darcey. James, a Manchester based dentist was nominated for his article Resorption: part 1. Pathology, classification and aetiology, which was published in the BDJ in May 2013.

A new app ‘Real Tooth Morphology’ has been released by two academics from the University of Sheffield. This unique app uses high resolution micro-CT scan data of real teeth. The data has been collected and processed by the academics, who used 3D reconstruction techniques to allow the external and internal structures of the teeth to be explored in 3D in great detail.

A turtle hospital in the Florida Keys called a local dentist for help to mend a sea turtle's broken shell. The dentist, Fred Troxel, used denture repair adhesive to bond two metal plates across a split in the turtle's shell. A month ago, the turtle had arrived at the turtle hospital with its shell possibly fractured by a passing boat.
