The Daily Mail has reported that the dental corporate, mydentist, has admitted that it does not have enough dentists to carry out check-ups and treatments. Thousands of patients are unable to see an NHS dentist due to a recruitment crisis. The BDA told the paper that The British Dental Association, which represents dentists, said the problems were caused by Government cuts to dental services and overly restrictive targets.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has at last issued its report and advised extending immunisation to adolescent boys at the same age as girls. The Scottish and Welsh Governments have said they will implement the recommendation. In England the minister has said he will announce a decision ‘very soon’.

The British Orthodontic Society has responded to an ASA ruling of misleading advertising in relation to claims that the Acceledent device could move teeth faster and reduce pain for brace wearers. Acceledent is a hand-held oscillating device which can be purchased by patients wearing braces or aligners. The theory is that the vibrations of the device help the teeth to move faster.The ASA ruled that the claims cannot be substantiated and the ad can no longer be used.
GPs “will go insane” unless limits are imposed on the number of patients they see each day, the BMA claims. They have called for a cap on the number of patients, with doctors pointing to the system in Sweden, where GPs see 13 patients in a typical day. Some GPs said they often had 70 consultations in a single day – and this could not be safe for them or their patients.
The BDA has responded to an article that appeared on the Dentistry.co.uk website entitled an interview with Ian Brack in which the GDC Chief Executive revealed the Annual Retention Fee will remain unchanged at £890 in 2019. BDA Chair, Mick Armstrong said: “When the budget for 2019 hasn’t even been formally agreed by the Council, it is not a good look for the GDC’s Chief Executive to unveil the figures in this manner”.
