The GDC has published it’s take on cross-regulatory research into the concept of seriousness in fitness to practise cases. This would imply that the level of perceived seriousness will affect both how far an issues goes down the disciplinary pathway, and also the level of sanction applied.
An Appeals Tribunal has decided that the General Dental Council does not have to reveal the contents of an email sent by former Chair Dr William Moyes to GDC staff during the UK’s dental shutdown in 2020.
“We would not accept people having to ring around A&E departments to see if there was any space for NHS patients, so I do not see why we should accept it for dentists” - Justin Madders, Ellesmere Port & Neston (LAB).
It now looks highly likely that the Dentists Act will be amended to prevent dentists who qualified overseas, from practising as dental therapists without facing any examination of their practical skills.
