Two pieces of recent news might just bring a glimmer of hope to the many practices trying to find dentists to fill their vacant posts, but with a third having the opposite effect. All involve the GDC.
The British Dental Association has said that “Dentists now face real uncertainty” following Boris Johnson’s announcement in the Commons yesterday that COVID laws and free mass testing are to be swept away across England.

The newspapers and parliamentary debates have recently been full of tales of DIY dentistry. A dentist that feels the need to place his own implant might raise a few eyebrows.

The GDC has published it’s take on cross-regulatory research into the concept of seriousness in fitness to practise cases. This would imply that the level of perceived seriousness will affect both how far an issues goes down the disciplinary pathway, and also the level of sanction applied.
