Prime Minister, Theresa May, left Jeremy Hunt as Health Secretary in her Cabinet reshuffle and gave him additional responsibilities for social care. Two new ministers of state have been appointed, Stephen Barclay MP for North East Cambridgeshire and Caroline Dinenage MP for Gosport. The previous minister, Phillip Dunne MP has left the Government.

The Faculty of General Dental Practice UK (FGDP) has announced the membership of a ‘Transition Board’ as it works to establish an independent College for general dental practice. It is chaired by Prof Nairn Wilson and members are Kevin Lewis, Duncan Rudkin, formerly of the GDC, Neil Sawbridge, a former chief financial officer and Dr Mick Horton, Dean of FGDP.
A dentist in Taiwan has been ordered to pay his mother nearly $1m (£712,000) as an "upbringing fee." In Chinese and Taiwanese traditions, children are strongly encouraged to give back to their parents once they have reached adulthood. His mother made her sons sign a written argument to ensure they'd pay their debt.
In the USA a dentist is reported to be buying into the newest category of money by accepting bitcoin currency in his practice. George Carr said: “The first time I gave someone my e-mail and boom, next thing you know I have my money." In the UK several practices are known to accept this new ‘currency’.
NHS England has launched a consultation to rein in prescriptions and buy ‘over the counter’ products, such as dandruff shampoo and drops for tired eyes, freeing-up up to £136 million to expand other treatments for major conditions. Some dental conditions are included, which could prove controversial.
A national campaign has been launched by Public Health England to promote healthier snacks and reduce sugar consumption among children. They are consuming three times more sugar than recommended, leading to obesity and dental decay. As part of the campaign dentists are being provided with a free dental toolkit.
