Perhaps the UK’s best known direct to consumer orthodontic operation (DTC), is Smile Direct Club (SDC). Readers will probably be familiar with their advertisements on national television & social media. Despite their high profile, they may have taken a leisurely approach to meeting the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 including the requirement to register with the CQC.

CDO Letter, “Clear As Mud”

Delivered 5 days after the due deadline, the CDO’s latest letter to English contractors has not had a great reception. As reported on GDPUK, the letter contained two new major announcements. These were that for the forthcoming quarter, contractors would be expected to reach 95% of their regular UDA targets, and that for the previous quarter, 75% rather than 85%, would now be accepted.

Visitors to the BDIA Dental Showcase at London’s Excel centre had the opportunity to listen to two English Chief Dental Officers. While suitably sponsored former CDO Barry Cockcroft popped up to promote a toothpaste, his successor Sara Hurley was scheduled to deliver a keynote address in the Clinical theatre.
