Compass Sends Claims in the Wrong Direction

The Business Service Authorities‘ Compass software has been on borrowed time since 2023 when it was announced that a replacement was under development. Since then users have been invited to suggest names for the new system, but there has been little information in terms of a launch date.

Meanwhile Compass has continued to remind NHS dental contractors of its frailties. Recent posts on the GDPUK forum discussed what at first appeared to be individual practice’s difficulties. It now appears that the problems are more widespread, and as yet, unresolved.

Within a Greater Manchester LDC, a number of practices had problems with claim batches not being cleared by Compass. This appears to be an inconsistent issue with some recent batches of claims being cleared while older ones are not.

Concerns increased as practices worried that claims with completion dates over two months before their eventual processing in the system would be rejected. The treatment of patient charges added a further layer of uncertainty.

The LDC were advised that the Commissioning Team and DPB would be in communication once the content of their message to contractors had been finalised.

Later, Dental Adviser Stuart Allan was able to advise that the BSA have agreed that claims will be processed according to date of receipt and that this should not trigger the 8 week rule. He added that the 8 week rule itself remained and that FP17’s still needed to be sent in a timely manner.

A “Dear Practices” message from Greater Manchester Commissioning Team has now acknowledged an “ongoing issue” with Compass. “As a result many claims are currently not being processed and therefore not appearing on schedules.”

A knock on from this, since schedules are not showing all claims, means that they cannot be used as a reliable assessment of UDA fulfilment.

In addition, the Team noted that, “contract holders may notice a very positive cash balance.” This was likely to change when processing resumed, and there is a potential for future schedules to show a negative payment.

The BSA has instituted a rule that claims will be processed in order of date received, and those presently, “in the BSA queue will not be lost.” The two month rule remains but it will be calculated on the basis of the submission date rather than the processing date.

For issues relating to the calculation of associate payments, contractors are referred to their LDC chairs.

Please let GDPUK know if there are problems in your area.
