Never Mind MOS, Watch MAFS!

Never Mind MOS, Watch MAFS!

Readers of GDPUK will be familiar with the acronyms MOS and MDS, but might want to get up to speed on MAFS.

Known as MAFS to connoisseurs of reality TV, Married at First Sight is about to embark upon its tenth series with some added dental interest. The format sees singles who are total strangers married after being matched by experts. They meet for the first time on their wedding day.

Whether you agree with Channel 4 that this is a bold social experiment or see it as bread and circuses entertainment, staff rooms and patients may be following one participant particularly closely, dentist Neelima Patel, who comes from Manchester.

According to Grazia magazine, Neelima, or Nelly to her friends, is one of Manchester’s top cosmetic dentists and is well-established in the industry. She isn’t afraid to say what others are thinking and always stands up for the people she’s closest to.

The participants are described by the production as cast members. This year one of the show’s relationship experts Paul Brunson has claimed that the new series will be "one of the most memorable" in the reality show’s history. Amongst other innovations, for the first time in MAFS UK history, there will be two gay weddings in the same series with both a gay male pair and a lesbian twosome meeting for the first time at the altar."

Described as "Outspoken, confident, and warm,” 30 year old Dr Patel, "knows what she deserves" and is looking for a man who is "strong, emotionally intelligent, and not intimidated by a woman who knows exactly who she is."

In a teaser trailer for the new series, she was shown having a suitably dramatic entrance, advancing down the aisle in what was described as a Bollywood style outfit on a dolly covered with brightly coloured flowers.

She narrated the video by portraying her nervousness about the reaction of her soon-to-be husband, saying, "If he doesn’t react well to my entrance, I’d be devastated. I’m putting my heart on the line and I just really really hope it doesn’t get squished to little pieces because I don’t know how I’m going to come back from it if it does..."

Described as "Outspoken, confident, and warm", she has been single for over a year, and is now ready to search for true love.

A brief search of the results during and shortly after previous series which almost all conclude with the couples separation, suggest that Neelima’s chances of finding a long term relationship on MAF are as slim as the latest NHS uplift.
