Act Now: DHSC Survey To Inform NHS Dental Contract Reform

The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) is urging dentists across England to take part in a new nationwide survey to support the government‘s long-term dental reform programme.

Open until 16 June 2025, the anonymous survey will gather information on the costs and pressure involved in running a dental practice.

The results will help improve patient access to dental care, reform the dental contract and support the DDRB pay review.

In a statement and link to the survey issued by the British Dental Association (BDA), the organisation has also urged the profession to engage. "This confidential study is designed to gain a well-informed, comprehensive and nuanced understanding of how to support dentistry in England" the BDA says."We have been clear that the future of contractual reform hinges on ensuring no practice has to deliver NHS care at a financial loss."

The survey will take participants time to complete, but that should not deter all who care about the future of dentistry investing time and effort to secure a better future.  "This is your chance to help win the argument for fair and sustainable funding" the BDA statement read.

"Whether you are a large operator or a small business, primarily NHS-focused or private, and wherever you are in England, your experience can help shape the future of dentistry.

The initiative is part of the government’s Plan for Change to improve dental services, which includes 700,000 extra urgent appointments and supervised toothbrushing for young children in early years settings.

The survey is separate from NHS England’s Dental Workforce Survey, and does not cover community dentistry.
