Young Glasgow dentist found dead by police

The body of dentist Jamie Newlands, 39 was discovered by police in countryside surrounding his home town of Glasgow. His family had raised the alarm on Friday evening after he failed to return home. He lived in the city's Newlands area with his wife Amy and baby daughter. The cause of his death is not yet known.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: 'At around 20:45 hours on Friday 28th July 2017 the body of a 39-year-old man was found by officer on Greenfield Hill, Muir Road, Eaglesham. There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.'

He was an award-winning cosmetic dentist who worked with such celebrities as actor Robert Carlyle, Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri and Paolo Nutini at his Berkeley Clinic in Glasgow's West End. Jamie won the Scotland's Best Young Dentist award in 2009 and then the next year took home the prize for being Best Dentist.

A pre-recorded message at The Berkeley Clinic's answering machine said: 'The clinic will be closed due to a bereavement within the practice and will reopen on Tuesday morning.' Friends and colleagues posted tributes to him on social media.

How desperately sad
What an awful event for a young man who should have had his life ahead of him. I hope that his family and colleagues get the support they need in the months ahead. I also hope that, if there are any lessons to be learnt from this, they are recognised and acted on.

My sincere condolences to all those close to him.
