Dentist to go on trial for sexual assault

A Northern Ireland dentist is to go on trial in relation to multiple sexual assault charges, after pleading not guilty to all. Eamonn Patrick Edward McCann of Omagh is accused of sexually assaulting a female on six occasions between 31 August and 1 October 2015. He denied all matters – a position he has maintained from the outset of proceedings.

The defence barrister described the case as “relatively straightforward” and estimated it would last three to four days. His Honour Judge Stephen Fowler QC set the trial for hearing on 11 September. McCann was remanded on continuing bail of £200.

The General Dental Council shows McCann is ‘Registered with Conditions’ which include notification of any post he accepts in which registration is required, and he must not work as a locum or undertake any out-of-hours work or on-call duties without the prior agreement of the GDC.

In addition at any time he is providing dental services, which require him to be registered with the GDC, he must agree to the appointment of a reporter nominated by himself and approved by the GDC, and he must allow the GDC approved reporter to give reports to the GDC in relation to his practice.
