Oasis to take over closed practice in Tewkesbury

Oasis may take over closed practice in Tewkesbury

Last month mydentist announced that it would be closing its Tewkesbury practice but it has now been confirmed that Oasis is about to take it over. In a statement, NHS England said: "Oasis Dental Care is committed to providing quality oral care to patients, and patients will start to see some changes to the practice over the coming weeks."

The NHS statement continued: "In the meantime, whilst changes are taking place, patients requiring dental care have a number of options available to them."

An Oasis spokeswoman told a local newspaper earlier: "The NHS is investigating alternative dental care providers to take on the mydentist's patient base, and Oasis is in ongoing conversations with them regarding this – however they aren't in a position to give specifics just yet."

The newspaper went on to say that this may give hope to thousands of people, who found out last month that they would no longer be able to go to the mydentist site from March 31, that a replacement surgery may soon be up and running. A total of 7,000 patients had been registered there with mydentist, which blamed getting less NHS work and having fewer patients for its decision.

It said patients registered at the practice, where ten full-time jobs could be lost, would be offered treatment at mydentist practices in Cheltenham or Gloucester. The company said those patients unable to travel to Cheltenham or Gloucester, or register with alternative practices in Tewkesbury, could seek further options by going on to the NHS Choices website.
