Barrister loses appeal over fine for dentist lawsuit threat

A barrister was fined £500 after threatening to sue his dentist for negligence - and saying he "was a barrister" and would "win the case". Henry Davies had told dentist Anil Shrestha that he was an "expert in medical negligence", a High Court judge was told.

He was fined after being accused of professional misconduct when he appeared before a lawyers' tribunal. The Council of the Inns of Court disciplinary tribunal had concluded that he had abused his position as a barrister and engaged in conduct likely to diminish public confidence in the legal profession, Mr Justice Supperstone heard. Detail of the case has emerged after Mr Davies asked the judge to overturn the tribunal's decision. Mr Justice Supperstone dismissed his appeal after a hearing in London.
