BSPD to host international congress in Glasgow

The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) will be hosting the 25th congress of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) in Glasgow in July. The overall theme of the three-day congress is ‘The Voice of the Child’. Chaired by Richard Welbury, Professor of Paediatric Dentistry of the University of Glasgow, the congress is set to attract many hundreds of paediatric dentists from around the world.

Said Professor Welbury:  ”BSPD is committed to showcasing a Congress that demonstrates world-class and holistic dental care for children.  Delegates will be updated regarding current social theory and policy relating to childhood, the need for safeguarding and how to engage child-centred approaches with clinical practice and oral-health related clinical research.”

The speakers include the following:

Tim Wright – from the USA and an expert on dental anomalies such as amelogenesis imperfecta

Kevin O'Brien – eminent consultant orthodontist and academic who will speak about the psychosocial aspects of malocclusion

Peter Day – co-author of the latest BSPD guidelines on tooth avulsion

Marie Therese Flores- from Chile, a member of the International Association of Dental Traumatology Board and co-author of the International Association of Dental Traumatology guidelines.

Zoe Marshman – who has pioneered child-centred dental research in the UK

Jenny Harris  - co- author of BSPD dental neglect policy document and of the first UK Guideline on child protection ‘ Child protection and the Dental Team’.

Nicky Kilpatrick – from Australia and an expert on dental management of cleft lip and/or palate and Chairman of the new International taskforce ‘cleft without caries.’

June Nunn – from Ireland, Past President of the International Association for Disability and Oral Health who will be speaking about children’s rights.

The venue is the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre on the banks of the River Clyde.
