GDC seeks new dental professional member

The General Dental Council (GDC), has launched a recruitment campaign to appoint a dental professional Council member. This is to replace Jason Stokes, who resigned last year, but his replacement need to be a dentist, but could be a DCP. Council members are required to attend on 36 days per year and remuneration is £15,000 per annum. Application can now be made online through the GDC website.

The GDC’s press release says that it is the regulator of dental professionals in the UK. ‘Our role is to enhance patient safety, improve the quality of dental care and maintain public confidence in dental regulation. We aim to regulate in a way that is proportionate, accountable, transparent, consistent, targeted, and responsive to changing demands, risks and priorities.’

To be eligible for this appointment candidates must be currently registered with the GDC. For this role, they are seeking an individual who is ‘highly experienced in providing strategic direction, and committed to working constructively with the GDC's Executive team in the interests of public protection.’ The press release continues: ‘Applicants must have a strong commitment to patient protection and the promotion of confidence in the regulation of dental professionals to ensure the GDC continues to regulate effectively. The GDC values and promotes diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity for all. All decisions made will be based on merit and the applicant's ability to meet the candidate specification.’
