Updated manual on dentistry across Europe published

The fifth edition of the EU Manual of Dental Practice has been published by the Council of European Dentists (CED). The Manual is a comprehensive reference document describing the legal and ethical regulations, dental training requirements, oral health systems and the organisation of dental practice in the 32 European (EU and EEA) countries.
As with all earlier editions, it was prepared and designed by a team from Cardiff University. Its primary aim is to provide detailed information for dentists and dental professionals who are considering working in another country. Beyond this, earlier editions of the Manual have proved to be an indispensable resource for educational institutions, governments and regulators. It is widely cited in professional and peer-reviewed journals.
The Cardiff University team commenced work on the new edition in June 2013. The team comprised principal author Dr Anthony Kravitz OBE, Professor Alison Bullock, Professor Jon Cowpe and Ms Emma Barnes. The 2014 edition can be downloaded free of charge from the CED website. The CED hold the copyright for the Manual, and the conditions for use of it should be noted.
Dr Kravitz lead author and contributor to GDPUK told members: “There is frequent reference to Europe on postings on GDPUK, so the publication of a book on which I have been working for the last 12 months may of some interest to members. “Unfortunately the ‘Learn more’ button on the opening page of the Council of European Dentists brand new website does not work, so it takes a little searching to find the Manual.
