A new Scottish Dental Association?

At the Conference of Scottish Local Dental Committees, two motions calling for the formation of a new association for Scottish dentists, to work for the best interests of Scottish dentists, were passed with a large majority.

The motions were debated, with speakers including the National Director of BDA Scotland Pat Kilpatrick and Mick Armstrong, Chair of BDA PEC. This issue had been preceded by the collective resignation from the BDA by 13 members of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde LDC.

There was a genuine groundswell of very strong opinion, and the vote seemed to be carried with regret. There seems to have been a long period of dissatisfaction with management of Scottish affairs by Wimpole Street, which had peaked with the multiple crises of the past 12 months, despite the presence in Stirling of Mick Armstrong and John Milne.

Later in the day, in Any Other Business, BDA quickly responded with the idea of a federated organisation that could be formed. The Conference agreed with the concept of working with the BDA to consider this as well as considering their own organisation. Keiran Fallon MBE agreed to chair a Working Party to produce a recommendation.
