Dentists invited to influence 2014 LDC Conference agenda

Dentists across England and Wales are being invited to influence the agenda for debate at the 2014 Annual Conference of Local Dental Committees (LDCs). Dr Tony Jacobs, the Chair of this year’s Conference, said: “I urge practitioners to take this opportunity to help shape the debate that will, in turn, help shape their future.”
Dentists can either send their suggestions directly to their LDC, or forward them to conference organiser Alexandra Cenic (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) at the British Dental Association (BDA). Suggestions must be accompanied by the name of the dentist proposing them and their GDC number. Ideas submitted via the BDA must also identify the Local Area Team or Health Board area in which the dentist practises so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate LDC. The deadline for suggestions via either route is 21 April.
Dr Tony Jacobs said: “The conference, which is attended by LDC representatives from across the country, proposes and debates motions on a wide range of issues that have a practical impact on general dental practitioners’ working lives. Passed motions are sent from the Conference for consideration by the BDA’s General Dental Practice Committee, the body that represents high street dentists across the UK. The LDC Conference has long been the crucible for debate about the emerging issues that are confronting general dental practice. It’s where elected LDC officials come together annually to debate the things that really matter to the profession.
“This year, LDCs are really keen to hear from rank and file dentists across England and Wales who may not have the time to engage regularly with their LDC, but want to help shape dento-political debate. We want to hear about dentists’ concerns for the future and change the profession is embarked upon. I urge practitioners to take this opportunity to help shape the debate that will, in turn, help shape their future.”
The 2014 Annual Conference of Local Dental Committees takes place in Manchester on 13 June.
