Many contentious motions at LDC Conference on Friday
The 2013 Conference of Local Dental Committees (LDCs) takes place in London this Friday under the chairmanship of Richard Elvin (Herts).  Health Minister Earl Howe is due to make an address and answer questions from the floor. During the day delegates will have the chance to debate 26 motions, some contentious, from LDCs.

In the morning General Dental Practice Committee chair, John Milne, will give his annual update to Conference and later a debate on associates will take place with presentations being given by Michael Lessani, from the BDA’s Young Dentist Committee and Justin Ash CEO of Oasis.

Among motions likely to stimulate lively debate are those on retirement age, seniority pay and safeguards against violent and abusive patients. Places for Foundation Training come in for criticism.

Negotiations for a new contract, as well as defects in the existing one will be debated. There are also motions critical of NHS England which took over responsibility for dental commissioning from PCTs in April.

At the end of Conference, Tony Jacobs will be installed as chair for 2014.
