Dentistry doing very well says CQC

Results of inspections by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) show that  88 per cent of practices were meeting all the government standards. The 12 per cent not meeting at least one standard were required to produce an action plan telling the CQC how they were going to improve. They did not find any serious concerns which would have led them to take more urgent action.

This compares with other sectors, such as hospitals and care home where a quarter of the health and social care sites were not meeting essential standards. And one per cent merited urgent CQC action. The inspections took place between June 2011 and March this year.

A more detailed analysis of the data for dental practices breaks them down into outcomes:

  • Respect and involvement: 99% meeting standards
  • Care and welfare of people who use the services: 98% meeting standards
  • Safeguarding: 93% meeting standards
  • Cleanliness and infection control: 94% meeting standards
