Dr Tony Jacobs, ‘dental pioneer’ and founder of GDPUK, has been awarded an honorary distinction for his contributions to the association and the profession.
Life memberships are reserved for long-standing or retired members of the British Dental Association (BDA), which is the official trade union and professional association that advocates for dentists and dental students across the UK.
Members are nominated through the BDA Honour and Awards program, before being reviewed and awarded by the executive committee.
Dr Jacobs said: 'It is a reward for the readers, subscribers, and website team at GDPUK.com for their contributions to UK dentistry.'
A general dentist serving Prestwich for 41 years, Dr Jacobs was part of the first cohort of dentists who left the NHS and moved into private dentistry in 1992.
He has held advisory positions for Dental Protection Society and is the vice chair for Bury and Rochdale Local Dental Committee.
Dr Jacobs launched GDPUK in 2008 to provide a voice for dentists.
Following its acquisition by Cogora in May, Dr Jacobs remains involved with the publication as an editorial consultant.
