Oral bacteria are associated with pancreatic cancer risk

Oral bacteria are associated with pancreatic cancer risk
In a new study, researchers report that people who had high levels of antibodies for an infectious oral bacterium turned out to have double the risk for developing pancreatic cancer. High antibody levels for harmless oral bacteria, meanwhile, predicted a reduced pancreatic cancer risk. The new study finds significant associations between antibodies for multiple oral bacteria and the risk of the cancer.

The British Dental Trade Association (BDTA) has welcomed the amendment to the UK cosmetic regulations which comes into force on Oct 31. Solo and Unsupported Expedition to the South Pole Part 2

Solo and Unsupported Expedition to the South Pole Part 2

Editorial
Antarctica is well known for its sastrugi, so none of this came as a surprise. I was aware of the importance of not losing my sense of humour, which would have been all too easy in the maze of ice. On the days where the sun shone, these obstacles were truly beautiful. Weaving my way through them was...

At the Start Line - Solo and Unsupported Expedition to the South Pole

GDC Failing Again - Wasting Your Money - Oversight Flawed

Stephen Henderson
Once again, the GDC is in the courts and on the wrong end of criticism for the way it has conducted itself in legal proceedings Baz v General Dental Council [2025] EWHC 643 (Admin) (20 March 2025). At the same time, serious failings have been identified in the effectiveness of the non-executive Coun...

GDC makes successful appeal - can impose longer sentences

Stephen Henderson
The Court of Appeal says "As always, the touchstone will be the protection of the public" - The GDC makes a successful appeal in immediate orders case .... even if that means individual registrants are prevented from practising by long suspensions.
