Those operating before the deadline were invited to make a "transitional application". A small number of providers failed to do so and will be contacted from this week. |

| NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson has published details of the reformed commissioning system and the emerging national board. The purpose of the new NHS Commissioning Board to use ‘the commissioning budget of around £80bn a year to secure the best possible health outcomes for patients and communities.’ The Board will also directly commission NHS dentistry. |

GDPUK understands that the BDA’s Board of Directors (the Representative Body) were not informed of the letter nor of its contents. |

| Experienced dentists feel angry and let-down at news that an expected extension to the deadline for joining the seniority pay scheme may not be forthcoming, Dr John Milne, Chair of the BDA’s General Dental Practice Committee, has warned. | New research forecasts that over one in four post-menopausal women are likely to suffer tooth loss over a five year period, and the risk increases to nearly 90 per cent if other risk factors are present, especially diabetes and if they smoke.
