The General Dental Council (GDC) is looking to expand its list of clinical advisors and experts who can bring their knowledge, skills and expertise to its fitness to practise (FtP) process. Clinical advisors and experts assist the GDC with these investigations by providing independent clinical advice and opinion. Go to the GDC website to see the role profile and how to apply. The closing date for applications is Friday 27 June 2014.

He has filled a number of warehouses with a one-of-a-kind motors from the past 80 years. He now owns more than 450 classics, ranging from multi-million pound Jaguars through to Morris Minors.

The General Dental Council (GDC) has issued a statement following the recent consultation on proposed new rules for continuing professional development (CPD). Just over 600 responses were received from a range of individuals and stakeholders, including dental professionals, postgraduate dental deaneries and professional associations. Most agreed with the proposals.

The General Dental Council (GDC) is seeking views on its draft Standards for Specialty Education. The consultation will run until 23 July 2014. The Standards for Specialty Education outlines what the GDC expects of education and training providers delivering programmes that lead to a certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) and individuals being included onto one of the GDC's specialist lists.

The Scottish National Party (SNP) is claiming credit for more dentists and registrations in Scotland. Between 2006 and 2013, there were 793 additional dentists, an increase of 32.6%. The levels of registration with an NHS dentist have also increased since the party took office in May 2007. Scotland has gained 793 additional dentists - an increase of 32.6%, the SNP said.

Oasis Healthcare has acquired Apex Dental Care for an undisclosed sum. The deal closely follows the acquisition of Smiles Dental in April 2014. The additions of Apex and Smiles to the Oasis portfolio will increase its turnover by 40% from £160 million to over £225 million, through the provision of NHS, private and specialist dental care to over 3 million patients. Its practice network will have grown by over 50% from 204 to over 310 in 6 weeks.

A ‘rescue package’ has been put together for Bodmin patients affected by the sudden closure of a local dental surgery. NHS England has agreed for Bodmin Dental to provide cover to the 2,500 patients in the Bodmin area who have been left without a dentist, following the immediate closure of George House Practice.

Continued recovery in the UK economy is driving a rise in confidence amongst dentists and a move towards more private dental care, according to the findings from the latest Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking Healthcare Confidence Index.
- For the fifth Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking Healthcare Confidence Index in a row, dentists are the most optimistic about the overall future prospects of their profession when compared to GPs and pharmacists
- 80 per cent of dentists are concerned that the impending NHS dental contract will be inadequately funded
- Over two thirds (69 per cent) of dentists are planning to grow their business in the next five years to combat this
