‘Smile in pink for Bridge2Aid’ will take place on Friday June 6th in partnership with the British Dental Health Foundation and National Smile Month, and they are asking practices and organisations to do just that – wear pink for one day to raise awareness of international oral health and Bridge2Aid work in developing nations. It really is that simple!

A dental nurse accused of poisoning her boss with mercury has walked free from court. Ravinder Kaur's case was dropped by the CPS when two separate juries failed to reach verdicts. She was said to have laced practice manager Laura Knowles’ coffee with the toxic metal after being handed her final written warning three days previously.
The latest goodwill survey from NASDAL for the quarter ending January 31st of this year shows that the North-South divide is reflected in dental practice sales figures. The deals also reflect the ongoing popularity of mixed practices. NASDAL member Alan Suggett said that the average goodwill value for an NHS dental practice was 88% of turnover, for a private practice, 89%, and all practices 97% of turnover.
A dentist's receptionist brought a patient back from the ‘dead’ when she rushed to his aid after he had a heart attack in the waiting room. Charlotte Anderson-Hughes and dentist Chandra Metha used a defibrillator on patient Simon Walker, 53, from Hyde, Cheshire after he collapsed in the waiting room of the practice in Mossley.
One of the largest refurbishments of a UK dental school in recent years has been completed at King’s College London Dental Institute (Guys campus). The General Dental Council (GDC) has successfully prosecuted two women for unlawfully practising dentistry in London, namely tooth whitening. Maggie Peachey pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to one offence and a second defendant, Jodie Evans pleaded guilty to two offences of unlawfully practising tooth whitening.
The Royal Bank of Scotland has been cleared of deliberately putting small and medium enterprise customers in financial distress or out of business for its own profit in a recent report. Law firm Clifford Chance said it had found “no evidence” of wrong-doing by RBS and had found nothing to suggest small business customers had failed because of actions taken by the lender.
Dentists are being urged to add their names to a petition opposing proposals to reduce the salary paid to Dental Foundation Trainees (DFTs) by more than £2,000. The petition, which warns of the practical implications for young dentists qualifying with increasing debts and calls for the proposal to be abandoned, has already attracted more than 5,000 signatures.

A simplified approach to the sale of incorporated dental practices is recommended by NASDAL member Russell Abrahams of Abrahams Dresden, who says that sales of dental limited companies can too easily become mired in complexity. When an incorporated dental practice is sold, he explains, a standard dental practice conveyance is combined with a company commercial transaction, featuring the most complex aspects of both.
