The Independent.ie reports that dentists are leaving an Irish Government-funded scheme ‘in their droves’ as they struggle to cope in the midst of the pandemic. New figures show that more than 260 dentists have dropped out of the scheme, that provides dental services to medical card holders, since the start of this year. About 200,000 people are now facing delays for treatment.

New cases of oral cancer in the UK have risen to a record high, according to the findings of a new report. Figures collected by the Oral Health Foundation show that 8,722 people in the UK were diagnosed with the disease last year, increasing by 97% since 2000. Such cases in the UK have soared for the 11th year in a row and have more than doubled within the last generation.

The Prime Minister has announced that, from midnight Thursday November 5, England will go into a nationwide lockdown until Wednesday December 2. Guidance has been issued from Gov.uk, which indicates that people will be allowed and encouraged to leave home for medical appointments and dental practices are not on the list of businesses that must close.
