| The new contract pilots, due to start on April 1 have been delayed until at least June/July. In a letter to participants David Lye from Dental Services at the Department of Health says that software will not be up and running until late May/June and it will then be necessary for PCTs to agree contract variations with their dentists.

Dentists’ profits reduced or static in 09/10

The net profits of dentists in the financial year 09/10 were either reduced or static compared to the previous year according to the annual statistics released by the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants (NASDA). CQC announces its fees for dentists
| The CQC has announced that dentists will pay £800 for a single practice and £1,600 for 2-3 practices. There is a sliding scale up to £48,000 for more than 100 locations. The fee is payable in April 2011 and will be payable every year thereafter. |

Overseas dentists caught up in bureaucratic dispute
| Dentists from India and other non-EU countries have been caught in bureaucratic wrangles between professional governing bodies in Britain, a campaign group have claimed. Candidates who complete the first part of LDS held by the Royal College of Surgeons of England are not being allowed to complete the second part due to wrangles between the Royal College and the General Dental Council (GDC). |

GDC sends reminder about lab work

A year after changes laboratory work were introduced the General Dental Council wants to remind dentists and technicians about their responsibilities. Patients who are provided with a dental appliance must be offered a copy of the statement of manufacture. A record should be kept of whether or not the patient chooses to accept it. If the patient doesn’t accept a copy, the dentist must keep the statement for the lifetime of the appliance.
