Two consultant grade dental surgeons are facing erasure from the Dental Register following the performing of ‘Frankensteinian surgical treatment' at an NHS hospital.
In a Fitness to Practice hearing at the General Dental Council, Maxillofacial Surgeon Mr Albert Tatlock, 66, and Orthodontist Mr Kenneth Barlow, 59, are charged with gross professional misconduct following a two year-long investigation.

The BDA has issued advice to its members on changes to the hazardous waste regulations which come into force on April 1, 2016 for practices in England. Two aspects are changing:
A London tooth whitener has been fined £10,000 in a recent case. His actions were aggravated by claiming that he was a registered dentist when he was not. In a separate case a man who works for a company (Pearlys) that specialises in tooth whitening products in South Woodford, east London was fined over £4,300.

Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has said he is considering scrapping a dental health scheme, which has been used by around one million children since it was introduced. He told Parliament that the scheme — which gives children $1000 worth of free dental care every two years — was failing to live up to expectations and confirmed earlier reports that the future of the program was under review.
Average profits in the UK’s private dental practices are beginning to leave those of NHS practices behind, according to the latest annual statistics from NASDAL – the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers. 2015 saw the gap between the two widen considerably – an average private practice making a profit of £140,129 per principal, compared to an average NHS practice profit of £129,265. Indeed, private practices have seen an increase in fee income of over 8% compared to 2014.
