The FGDP(UK) has supported a recent report which highlighted the detrimental overuse of antibiotics, the dangers of inappropriate use, and what steps can be taken to keep them working. Dean, Mick Horton said that their evidence based guidance set out sensible protocols for dental practitioners when considering the need to prescribe antimicrobials.

The British Dental Association (BDA) has welcomed the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) State of Care report, which has again revealed the low risk, good quality care delivered in English dental practices. Mick Armstrong, Chair of the BDA, said: “The care provided by dental services combines low risk and good quality – which is something our profession has always known.”
The British Dental Association (BDA) has expressed grave concerns that the General Dental Council (GDC) is attempting to extend its remit well beyond the duties given to it by Parliament, in its response to the regulator’s consultation on its corporate strategy for 2016-19, which has now closed. Mick Armstrong, Chair of the BDA, said: “It looks like the dental regulator is attempting to extend its remit at the expense of registrants.”

The British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) has reported an upsurge in calls to its Dental Helpline, for the second consecutive year. It says those seeking advice about their dental health over the last 12 months has increased by 17% compared with last year. Nigel Carter, Chief Executive of BDHF believes the success of the Dental Helpline is down to its sustained presence of providing independent and expert advice.
The American Dental Association (ADA) has found that dentists’ earnings in the USA are not rebounding after the recession. Their research also shows that additional capacity is available in the dental care system, while the supply of dentists is expected to increase. They conclude that the prospects for dentist earnings ‘remain unclear’.
