Swearing patient fined

A woman was ordered to pay £155 after turning up drunk and swearing inside the premises of a Hereford dentist surgery. Louise Ruth Evans admitted a charge of being drunk and disorderly when she appeared at Hereford Magistrates Court. The Court was told: "She had obviously been drinking, officers smelt alcohol on her and she was unsteady on her feet.”

Staff wouldn't treat her because of her intoxicated state. She was warned about her language and police officers, who were called to the practice, tried to explain that she wouldn't be treated. She began to swear and was then arrested.

Her lawyer said that she had been on the waiting list for a long period of time and was 'desperate' not to miss her appointment. He said: "Evans has a high level of medication for her various injuries and a back problem. On the week in question due to an error, her medication had been reduced meaning she was in a great deal of pain and filled the gap with alcohol. Her language in a public place was not what it should have been and she was arrested."

Magistrates gave Evans a six months conditional discharge. She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
