BDA greets breakthrough in junior contract talks

The British Dental Association (BDA) has greeted news of provisional agreement on the junior contract between the British Medical Association (BMA) and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, following talks at the conciliation service Acas. Hospital dentists employed on the same terms of service as junior doctors have participated at every stage of the recent industrial action, alongside their medical colleagues.

Those BDA members subject to the contract will take part in a referendum to approve the deal. These hospital dentists were the first members of the dental profession to take part in industrial action. Peter Dyer, Chair of the BDA's Central Committee for Hospital Dental Services, said: "We have stood shoulder to shoulder with our medical colleagues to secure a contract that is both safe and fair. After constructive dialogue we now have the breakthrough both patients and practitioners required. We now have a sound agreement and way to resolve this dispute. We will now be looking to our members to have the final say."
