LDCs call Special Conference

LDCs call Special Conference

A Special Conference of Local Dental Committees (LDCs) has been called to debate the effects of the present General Dental Council and the way this body regulates the dental profession in the UK. The date has been set for Friday December 5, LDC Officials Day.

LDCs will debate a single motion about the failings of the GDC at a venue in central London.

A large group of LDCs, initially convened in the North and North East of England, co-ordinated to gain momentum to gain the required quorum of twenty LDCs who formally requested the Special Conference.

The Special Conference is a mechanims for LDCs to meet and debate a single urgent motion, and this motion is to be:

“This conference believes the GDC has failed in its role as the regulator for Dentistry in its current model, and demands a reformation of the GDC that will protect patients and re-establish the support of the dental profession”.

There will be a presentation about the GDC's thinking and the way they announced their consultation and the fee rise itself. The motion will be proposed by Jason Wong.

The Special Conference will be held during a planned gathering of LDCs, which is the LDC Officials' Day, at the Cavendish Conference Centre in London W1.
