Dentist Ben Underwood has developed a unique app to encourage people to spend the correct time brushing their teeth. It is called BrushDJ and can be downloaded on to Android or Apple devices. The app plays 2 minutes of music taken at random from the device’s music library, as well as reminding the user when they should take care of their oral hygiene. |

Following the apparent transfer of the management of the Dental Professionals' Association [DPA] to CODE, the membership of DPA has announced an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held in central London on April 21st to debate motions against the takeover. |

| The National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL) says that high earning dentists have reason to celebrate following the announcement by Chancellor George Osborne that the 50% income tax rate on earnings over £150,000 will reduce to 45% from April 2013. |

| The Government has published the final details of its proposed changes to the NHS pension scheme in England and Wales. This follows months of discussions between the health service unions and the Department of Health. Discussions are now at an end and the unions are returning to their Executives to consider the offer. |

| Speaking in response to a question in the House of Lords by dentist Baroness Gardner of Parkes, Earl Howe said that he was asking the General Dental Council (GDC) to increase the priority given to the detection of oral cancer, and to include it as a recommended topic in continuing professional development (CPD) for dentists. There is to be a public consultation on the GDC’s proposals in 2012. |

| Kathy Harley, Dean of the Dental Faculty at the Royal College of Surgeons and a consultant in paediatric dentistry, has warned that half of five-year-olds had signs of wear to their tooth enamel. She warned that children who are encouraged to drink large amounts of fruit juice as part of their 'five a day' could be damaging their teeth. |

| The National Association for Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL) has published its client dentists’ statistics for 2010/11. Fee income is down for both the NHS and private sectors, profits are down and costs have increased. The average net profit for a typical dental practice has reduced from £139,569 to £125,691. The profit of Associates fell to £68,000 compared to £71,000 in the previous year. |

| The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that dentists do not have to pay royalties on music played in their practices. The judges said that this was because they are not broadcasting to the public, in a case brought against a Turin dentist by an Italian agency that collects royalties. The Luxembourg judges stated that dentists do not broadcast music for profit and the audience is limited. |

| The British Dental Association (BDA) has launched a survey of dental students involved in this year’s round of applications for Dental Foundation Training (DFT) places. The research will put together a full picture of the experiences of final-year student BDA members that the BDA will feed back to the organisers of the DFT application process. |
