Last week Google released their Zeitgeist report, detailing the most searched for queries of 2012 by their users. Google has examined the 1.2 trillion searches performed throughout the past year and has provided top ten lists in various categories, such as trending image searches, and most searched for people.

A total of 29.6 million patients were seen in the 24 month period ending September 2012, an increase of 1.4 million on March 2006. The number of children seen by an NHS dentist is equal to the figure for March 2006 of 7.8 million There were an estimated 9.7 million Courses of Treatment (CoTs) in Q1 2012/13, a decrease of 103 thousand (1.1 per cent) on Q1 2011/12.

A mobile ‘tooth bus’ – which contains a dentists’ chair, computer and dental equipment – will be driven to various towns in Oxfordshire until February next year. It will offer free check ups to anyone who lives in Oxfordshire who has not seen an NHS dentist in the last two years. If a patient on the tooth bus needs treatment, they will be referred to their nearest NHS dental practice, where usual NHS charges apply.

A patient has been awarded £9,000 in compensation after a dentist removed a healthy tooth by mistake. James Lacey, 44, was referred to Manchester Dental Hospital after being struck down with agonising pain. Three teeth should have been removed but afterwards Mr Lacey noticed that another tooth had been extracted.
