A Derby man has been ordered to pay more than £7,000 by the courts after being found guilty of illegally tooth whitening, that left woman ’in pain’. A London man, Jeffery Lehmann, has been ordered to pay more than £15,000, after having his previous conviction for illegal tooth whitening upheld. The failed appeal related to a 2017 conviction.

The latest statistics from the NASDAL (The National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers) Practice Goodwill Survey have been released. The survey for the quarter ending 30th April 2018 shows a mixed picture across the country and a number of practices seeming to benefit from large corporate buyer competition.

The Government has accepted a recommendation by the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) that dentists’ pay should be increased by 2%. However, it is not proposing to backdate that uplift to the usual April date, instead delaying implementation until October to cut costs. The BDA is not impressed.
Lord Blencathra, who was a minister over 20 years ago has said that Britain is becoming a nation of “fat, idle people who will bankrupt the NHS”, he described obesity as “a lifestyle choice”. But current health minister, Lord O’Shaughnessy, said: “It should be thought of as a disease, if not an epidemic, because it appears to be catching.”

The Daily Mail has reported that the dental corporate, mydentist, has admitted that it does not have enough dentists to carry out check-ups and treatments. Thousands of patients are unable to see an NHS dentist due to a recruitment crisis. The BDA told the paper that The British Dental Association, which represents dentists, said the problems were caused by Government cuts to dental services and overly restrictive targets.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation has at last issued its report and advised extending immunisation to adolescent boys at the same age as girls. The Scottish and Welsh Governments have said they will implement the recommendation. In England the minister has said he will announce a decision ‘very soon’.
