Dentist struck off for ‘gaming’
A dentist has been struck off by the General Dental Council (GDC) following a public hearing by the Professional Conduct Committee. The allegations against Anjela Devi Chetty involved making claims for multiple courses of treatment instead of a single course and not informing patients that the proposed treatment was available under the NHS.

A dentist has been struck off by the General Dental Council (GDC) following a public hearing into a criminal conviction. The allegations against Werner Richard Muller were heard by the GDC’s Professional Conduct Committee. Mr Muller’s last known registered address was at Fakenham in Norfolk.

More Dental Foundation training places to be offered from July 1
Applicants to dental foundation training who are on the waiting list for places have been urged by the BDA to keep a close eye on their email accounts from 1 July onwards. That’s when the second round of allocations will take place, and with a limited response window of 48 hours. Candidates who fail to accept the offers within the allocated timeframe will lose their chance of a place for this year and thus be unable to practise in the NHS for the immediate future.

However the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) found that the GDC had not met one of the nine standards and more is expected of the GDC next year.

Dental out of hours responsibility of NHS England
Health Minister, Dr Daniel Poulter, has confirmed that responsibility for out-of-hours dental care is now the responsibility of NHS England, since the closing on PCTs on March 31. In London, calls are forwarded to a dental nurse triage service, which is available 10 pm on Monday to Friday and from 9 am to 10 pm at weekends and on bank holidays.

Dental Protection reports that the General Dental Council recently chose to demonstrate their awareness of the stress experienced by registrants under investigation by the Council. It is the GDC’s declared intention to address some of the serious issues that are contributing to the levels of stress; such as the long delay before a hearing can proceed, the length of time a hearing can last and the large number of individual allegations brought against a registrant.
