Richard Graham has been elected Chair of the Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee. Susan Nelson and Derek Manson have also been elected to serve as the Committee’s vice chairs. A Cardiff refugee has become the first in Wales to benefit from a loan system that will help him regain the ability to work as a dentist. He has got a £10,000 loan from RefuAid which supports skilled refugees back into work and has so far helped 12. Mohammed Al-Homsi qualified in Syria but needs to re-qualify to practise in the UK.

The Local Government Association has claimed that hospitals carried out multiple tooth extractions on around 170 children every working day in the UK last year. There were 42,911 hospital procedures to remove teeth from patients aged 18 and under in 2016-17 at a cost of more than £36 million. There has been a rise of 17% over the past four years, up from 36,833 in 2012-13.
