Race against time to deliver Covid-19 training modules

Hundreds of dentists and dental care professionals have signed up to a brand new training resource to support dental teams in England going to work in Urgent Dental Care (UDC) centres. A group of dental professionals working in all sectors of dentistry combined their skills and knowledge to create the training which is now available on the ProDentalCPD platform.

The Prime Minister has followed up his address to the nation by publishing its 60-page Covid-19 recovery strategy. It does appear that the earliest that dental practices could resume anything like normal service is July 4 2020. This will be up to NHS to decide in all four countries. The Chancellor will make a statement tomorrow on the financial implications.

Dental surgeries are ’coronavirus heaven’ Professor Mike Lewis warns it will be ’very difficult to return to normal’. He said he does "not foresee" a return to normal any time soon. He also said that maintaining good oral hygiene could help prevent the spread the virus, a view echoed by Prof Martin Addy.

Replying to a Parliamentary Question, Jesse Norman MP, Financial Secretary to the Treasury said that the Government did not consider properties providing medical services were eligible for a business rates ‘holiday’. This despite repeated pressure from MPs across the House, the BDA and the newly formed British Association of Private Dentistry.

USA dentists prepare to return to work

Various States in the USA have indicated that they are considering easing restrictions on dentists carrying out routine treatment. The American Dental Association has developed a toolkit to help dentists return to more normal practice operations as some states reopen.  The American Dental Hygienists’ Association want to make sure hygienists have access to the necessary protective gear if their offices do reopen.
