British Association of Dental Nurses (BADN) Chief Exec Pam Swain celebrated 20 years with the Association at a drinks reception in London on Tuesday 4 September 2012. The event was held at the Mayfair Exchange, Brook Street and was attended by many of the people Pam has worked with over the last 20 years.

Sellers' market prevails

The ratio of goodwill to fee income for the average dental practice sold in the quarter ending 31 July 2012 has increased in the latest National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL) goodwill survey. It has picked up by 10 per cent from 91% of turnover in the previous quarter ending April 2012 to 101% in the most recent collection of figures from NASDAL members.

GDC clarifies position on whitening conviction

The General Dental Council (GDC) has issued a statement on the court case involving Elaine Taylor-Valles, a beautician convicted of carrying out tooth whitening. She claimed that she had not been informed of the court case and the conviction has been overturned. The GDC is considering whether to prosecute again.

Coconut oil could combat tooth decay

Scientists found that coconut oil which had been treated with enzymes stopped the growth of Streptococcus bacteria - a major cause of tooth decay. Speaking at the Society for General Microbiology's conference, the Irish researchers say that coconut oil also attacks the yeast which causes thrush.
