Early human teeth were healthier than modern teeth, says researcher. Among the about 5 million specimens at Tel Aviv University’s (TAU) Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, Israel National Center for Biodiversity Studies, are hundreds of ancient sets of teeth that are helping shed light on today's most pressing dental problems.

Bill Moyes reappointed to chair GDC until 2021

Bill Moyes has been reappointed as Chair of the General Dental Council (GDC) until 30 September 2021. The appointment was made by the Privy Council. Bill is currently Chair of the Gambling Commission, Chair of the Board of St Mary's Music School, Edinburgh and member of the Board of the Albertus Institute. The BDA has described the reappointment as a ‘missed opportunity.’

MDDUS issues warning on playing music

Dentists playing music in their practice must have relevant licences, or risk legal proceedings says MDDUS. It has received calls from members asking what the licence requirements are for playing music in waiting areas, with reports of companies cracking down on unlicensed playing of music. MDDUS’s Aubrey Craig claims dentists can face legal action if they don’t obtain the correct licence.

BDA condemns online antibiotic prescribing

Online pharmacies are fuelling the rise of drug-resistant superbugs by handing out antibiotics without asking for a prescription, an investigation has found. Chair of the BDA’s Health and Science Committee, Russ Ladwa, said: “The health risk presented by antimicrobial resistance requires a change in gear from patients, practitioners, and policymakers alike.”
