NASDAL (The National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers) has published its latest practice goodwill statistics. The quarter saw a reduction in the average goodwill values of all types of practice. There is also an ever increasing Private Equity interest in acquiring larger practices, or small groups.

Pregnant women with gum disease are significantly more likely to go into early labour, according to the findings of a new study. Research discovered that women who entered labour early were one and a half times more likely (45%) to have gum disease than women who experienced a perfect pregnancy (29%).

The BDA has called on the Government to recognise the workforce crisis in dentistry with Brexit looming, as new evidence from GDC suggests up to a third of the UK’s 6,300 European qualified dental registrants intend to leave UK dentistry. BDA’s Mick Armstrong said: “Government needs to wake up, and smell the coffee. NHS dentistry can’t be run without dentists.”
The American Dental Association (ADA) has applauded USA Congress for passing the Action for Dental Health Act. For years, dentists have worked to improve access to oral health care for underserved Americans and have championed this patient-benefiting legislation. “This is a tremendous victory for dentistry and patients everywhere,” said Jeffrey M. Cole, ADA president.

The British Dental Journal has published a large-scale study showing that almost half of dentists say stress in their job is exceeding their ability to cope and the most stressful aspects of their work are related to regulation and fear of litigation from patients.

Thousands of young children are to benefit from a new £1.5m programme aimed at transforming the dental health of under 5s across Greater Manchester. The new initiative will see supervised toothbrushing introduced in schools and nurseries plus dental care incorporated into health visitor checks in areas where particularly large numbers of young children suffer from tooth decay.
