Government agrees 2.5% pay rise for dentists

The Government has approved a recommendation from the Review Body (DDRB) report, that there should be a 2.5% general uplift in the pay element of dentists’ contracts, backdated to April 2019. This percentage will, however, only be paid once the expenses element has been negotiated with the GDPC.

FGDP(UK) welcomes new oral health requirement for schools

The Faculty of General Dental Practice has welcomed the inclusion of oral health in new statutory guidance on health education for schools in England. The new guidance will require that both primary and secondary school pupils are taught about dental health. Health education will become a statutory duty when the guidance takes effect in September 2020.

According to a report by Zion Market Research, global dental implants market was valued at approximately USD 5.08 billion in 2017 and is expected to generate revenue of around USD 7.97 billion by end of 2024, growing at a CAGR of around 6.63% between 2018 and 2024. North America and Europe are expected to dominate the implant market and are expected to account for almost 61% of the overall market share by 2024.

NASDAL Goodwill Results – NHS Practice Values bounce back

The latest NASDAL (National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers) Goodwill Survey statistics have just been released. The average goodwill value of NHS practices has bounced back after seeing three successive quarters of reductions. Alan Suggett, specialist dental accountant, who compiles the goodwill survey, said, “It is interesting to note that NHS practice values are back up.”

A million schoolboys will still be denied HPV vaccination

The FGDP(UK) has reacted with dismay to the government’s decision to deny immunisation against human papillomavirus (HPV) to a million schoolboys, while welcoming the ‘great news’ that 12 year old boys will finally start getting the HPV vaccine this year. But FGDP Dean, Ian Mills commented that the decision not to offer a catch-up programme “is wrong-headed and will lead to more needless deaths.”
