All NHS doctors and dentists in England now have 24/7 access to confidential advice and support, the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, has announced. More than 180,000 doctors and dentists can get confidential advice and support, in person or over the phone, if they’ve faced a stressful incident at work or feel they are struggling with their mental health.
The BDA has been told that NHS GDPs in England will be paid a 2.42% uplift in their November pay run. The Department has confirmed that the rise for 2019/2020 will be backdated to April 2019. Eddie Crouch, Chair of the BDA’s Review Body Evidence Committee, said: “This much needed uplift should have been implemented in April, but dentists will only receive this in November.”
Dental professionals in the UK are voicing grave concerns that overseas dental surgeons are putting patients at risk, by practising in the UK without thorough checks being carried out to assess their practical skills and competency.

Britain’s Josh Warrington defended his IBF world featherweight title for the third time with an emphatic second-round win over Sofiane Takoucht. Warrington, 28, knocked the Frenchman down twice before the referee stopped the contest after another flurry. After school, Josh started working at Beever Dental Laboratory, which would give him the nickname “The Tooth Fairy.”
Northumberland county council has approved the next steps to extend the fluoridation of the water supply in the county. The plan is subject to approval from the Health Secretary and they also propose to hold a public consultation to run from May to August next year. The Community Water Fluoridation (CWF) network was closely involved, following a unanimous vote at the LDC Conference.
