Ministers to issue guidance on water fluoridation
Minister Anna Soubry has confirmed that the Department of Health intends to issue guidance to regulations in February on water fluoridation including proposals to terminate a scheme in time for them to come into force on 1 April 2013 when responsibility for consultations on fluoridation proposals transfers to local authorities.

David Paul, a Chartered Accountant and NASDAL member led the campaign to improve the pension guidance, working closely with NHSBSA to develop a document which is clear to both dentists and health authorities.

Practice sale values fall

Practice sale values fall
The sale value of the average dental practice has dropped to 92% of turnover in the most recent quarter ending October 2012from 101% in the previous quarter according to Alan Suggett of NASDAL. The figure for the average valuation has also dropped, albeit more modestly, from 99% in the previous quarter to  97%  in the most recent quarter.

Routine antibiotics unnecessary for hip replacement patients
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS), and the American Dental Association(ADA) found that there is insufficient evidence to recommend the routine use of antibiotics for patients with orthopaedic implants to prevent infections prior to having dental procedures because there is no direct evidence that routine dental procedures cause prosthetic joint infections.

Lesley jumps to raise funds
Lesley Naismith, Support Manager at Software of Excellence put aside her fear of flying and heights in the autumn, when she parachuted to raise funds for a trip that will provide dental care for orphaned children in Burma. Lesley headed to Burma in November with Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen and his wife Sharon Bierer owners of “NHS Dentist” in Fulham and three other London practices.
