New ministers appointed following elections

Following the elections on May 5 in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, new health ministers have been appointed the two latter countries, Edwin Poots in Northern Ireland and Lesley Griffiths in Wales. Nicola Sturgeon MSP retains her post in Scotland, but there is a new shadow minister, Jackie Baillie MSP.


Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) Member Edwin Poots has been announced as the new Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety in the Northern Ireland Assembly, taking over from Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) Member Michael McGimpsey.

Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has been announced as the new Minister for Health and Social Services in the new Welsh Assembly government. She has previously served as Deputy Minister for Skills, Innovation and Science.

Nicola Sturgeon MSP retains her post as Deputy First Minister and Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy following the SNP’s election victory in Scotland. Jackie Baillie MSP has been announced as the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy for Labour.
